Innovation alliance for training programmes

for deforestation-free supply chains in Europe

Welcome!

This is the first newsletter of EMMA4EU, an initiative co-funded by the European Commission, that aims to tackle embedded deforestation by connecting higher education institutions, businesses and NGOs and creating new opportunities for capacity development, training and knowledge sharing.

This newsletter will be sent out every three months. We are happy to share news, opportunities, and updates on our journey towards zero-deforestation supply chains with you.

In a nutshell

The European Union is responsible for 16% of global embedded deforestation. To tackle this issue, the EU recently approved the Deforestation-Free Products Regulation: a milestone, a challenge and an opportunity for organisations. The EMMA4EU project aims to reduce deforestation risks in supply chains by creating innovative education and training programs to comply with the EUDR and establish a Deforestation-Free Supply Chains Manager curriculum. EUDR Regulation

The European Deforestation-free Products Regulation (EUDR), approved in July 2023, has the potential to significantly impact the global deforestation issue, starting from supply chains.

The law is designed to prevent companies from introducing, exporting and trading commodities associated with deforestation and forest degradation into or out of the EU market.
